Barefoot engineer Le Van Liem: Successfully manufacturing unconnected ropes
“I love only coconut fiber, because for the rural people, especially the poor, only coconut fiber brings daily income, helping people improve their lives; I think, no one can make the machine to dominate only coconut fiber better than Ben Tre, where people still call the land of coconut "is the confidant of Le Van Liem, the first prize winner. Ben Tre province is science and technology creative competition in 2016-2017 with a solution of unconnected rope machine.
Mr. Le Van Liem and the innovative product of unconnected rope machine.
Bicycle repair with passion
At the age of 21, the young Le Van Liem completed his military service, returned to Tan Hoi is homeland and established his career with a bicycle repair kit - that was his only capital when he started his independent life. Growing up in a poor family with 7 siblings, Le Van Liem only went to grade 9 and struggled with a living in his hometown of Tan Hoi commune, Mo Cay Nam district.
He loves mechanics but does not have money to study, every day he scratches the bike at the corner near the Island Hospital Minh, when he has little capital, he moves to learn motorbike repair. For a few years, he had money to learn mechanical engineering. By the age of 30, when life gradually stabilized, Mr. Liem was married.
From the days when he sat fixing bicycles, he knew that he was diligent and hard-working, his neighbors in the neighborhood brought a hand-pointing hand for coconut fiber to fix. “Many people just bring the coconut fiber handkerchief to ask me to fix it, I can do it when I can do it, many people say to me:“ Liem, how can I create a machine that only confuses me, then I He ran out only to help her. ”
"Only hard coconut fiber, it" eats "the hands of the workers, the only manual workers have to walk from one end to the other, a hundred days away. So, a little bit each day, each one encouraged me to make machines, many years later, I decided to plunge into my passion, "Mr. Liem said.
Five years of closing the manufacturing of coconut fiber car, Mr. Liem fell into poverty, poor due to spending too much capital and working hard from morning to night. “Everyone said I was crazy, because I did something unprecedented, something no one had done. I cried with coconut fiber, they were stubborn, stalks were hard, fragile stalks, short fibers, long fibers were not uniform, and I had to overpower them to make them feel right, all kinds of things had to submit to machine, I finally succeeded ”- Mr. Liem said.
Mr. Tran Van Cung Anh, from Thanh Thoi A commune, Mo Cay Nam district, said: “I bought Liem is 7 pieces of coconut fiber only machine, the machine ran very well, it can be said to be excellent, thanks to that work. The family is food is good. After 4 years since the first purchase of Liem is machine for VND 80 million, I have now developed two facilities specializing in coconut fiber production ”.
It is known that in order to support people in rural areas to have more income while the price of pork has dropped, only in 2018, did Mr. Le Van Liem sell the coconut fiber machine with the price of 45 million VND / piece (current price of machine is 60 million VND.
At the Fifth Technical Innovation Contest in 2014 - 2015, 8-axle coconut fiber car only machine by Le Van Liem was awarded the highest ranking by the Organizing Committee and classified into 17 solutions to bring practical efficiency in social life as well as contributing to the province is socio-economic development. This is the premise for the "barefoot" engineer Le Van Liem to continue to create unconnected ropes.
New technology for rope production
Ben Tre has many types of coconuts, so the source of tangled materials is very diverse with different sizes, small, small, long and short. Mr. Le Van Liem is 8-axle coir car engine has conquered the only tangled source of raw materials and launched a complete coir-only product with unlimited length.
After two years of research, Mr. Le Van Liem has continued to successfully manufacture unconnected ropes, the machine has the advantage of being twisted more tightly than handcrafted, the length is not limited and there are no connecting parts. Due to the wiring only, it is easy to produce woven products that are seamless, highly aesthetic.
"I am the father of a coir-only machine and a motorbike that is not connected, I have applied for patents because it proves to be a useful person." From the very practical thoughts, Mr. Le Van Liem has created two designs to suit the small appearance of women, including the elderly and the disabled, Mr. Liem said that in rural areas it is The labor force is both crowded and needs a home job to increase income.
The process of making ropes according to the previous way (semi-automatic) is usually in 3 steps. Step 1: create 2-strand coils, transfer 2 single strands into 1 roll into coils with 2 parallel strands. Step 2: connect and double car, parking rope needs a worker to use wire pulling force to run back and forth, 2 fibers straight out - reconnect - hook into the system as a fixed point on one end, the other end connected motor system for parking into double strands.
Often the twin yarns created are limited in length (from 13 to 20m), depending on the length of the production area. When customers request products with a length of several hundred meters, it is not possible. On the other hand, products that have a twisted joint in each section when being woven into a carpet are not suitable.
Principle of operation of unconnected rope machine: the spindle receives transmission from the deceleration motor through the belt transmission to make the frame rotate. When the 3-rotation frame will pull the single thread from the rolls out of the tube. The drawstring tube will pull the single thread into the position of the rope. Wire rope wrap complete.
The frame is made of V iron, size D 2.7m x R 1.3m x C 1.2m. Material feeding area: the product input is the only available axles, attached to the 4 fixed vertical axes. Two indexing and pulling bearings. The machine operates with a 0.5 kW electric motor.
The product is evaluated to meet the requirements of customers in terms of diameter and length (diameter from 14 - 20 li), unlimited length, 1 skilled worker can operate from 1 to 2 machine. Price for one machine is 40-50 million VND.
The machine creates products suitable for customer needs, the demand for exporting ropes is now considered very high, thereby creating jobs for idle workers, increasing income for rural people.
Increase the value of coconut fiber only
From coconut shells, the products are threaded and coco peat (only obtained at this stage is tangled), depending on the needs of customers, the production units make different products from coconut fiber only. such as: only bales of coir, only beat into fibers, coir nets, coir mats, ropes ...
Countries such as Korea, Japan, and India use quite popularly as carpet coir to make a covering of large roads, rural roads ... with anti-slip effect, in agriculture makes the curtains very moist.
According to Department of Science and Technology, the solution of unconnected rope machine of author Le Van Liem, born in 1970, Tan Hoi commune, Mo Cay Nam district won the first prize of the Sixth Ben Tre Technical Innovation Contest. in 2016-2017, field of Engineering, automation, construction, transportation.
It is expected that the Competition Organizing Committee will award prizes to the winners of the award on the occasion of Vietnam Science and Technology Day 18-5-2018.
The only tangled price is about 3,700 VND / kg (data from April 2016), when using only coconut fiber machine, the price per sign is only 7 - 13 thousand VND / kg (depending on size only), productivity increases 20 times more than manual work, the income after deducting expenses is about 200-350 thousand VND / person / day. With a non-connecting rope machine, each rope sign is only about 12 thousand dong.
Ms. Huynh Thi Nhu Thuy - Head of Specialized Management Department - Department of Science and Technology, member of the Organizing Committee of the 6th Provincial Technical Innovation Contest evaluated Le Van Liem is unmanned rope machine: "Calculate Newly, the creativity of unconnected rope machine can produce rope products with unlimited length, fixed material loading area, vertical design, wild material rotation with force. pull, rope is driven by rotating frame, towing system does not have rollers and clamping system ”.
"The solution is innovative about technology because no design has been put into production and application before in the province as well as the Mekong Delta region" - Ms. Huynh Thi Nhu Thuy said.
In terms of economic efficiency, Ms. Nhu Thuy commented: “The motorbike is not connected by electric motor 0.5 kW + 02 and the bearing and bearing device of finished product is compact and light so 1 Highly skilled workers can operate from 1 to 2 machines. The product is made from unconnected rope machine with high aesthetic, which helps increase the economic value for coconut products.
It can be said that the creativity of engineer "barefoot" Le Van Liem helped to improve the value of coconut fiber of Ben Tre province, while contributing to the solution of Mo Cay Nam district in the process of implementing the value chain. only coconut fiber - one of the items identified by the district as a key economic product of the district.
