Increasing productivity of coconut Cappuccino wax by embryo culture
In order to overcome the shortage of supply of coconut and Cau Ke wax, to develop sustainable and exportable products of Tra Vinh, Tra Vinh Department of Science and Technology is carrying out a project to build coconut by seedling culture of embryos.
Value 10 times higher than coconut
Coconut was present in Cau Ke and Tra Vinh since the 1960s. Many people recalled that a Khmer monk in Tra Vinh came to Cambodia to practice and when he came back, he brought this coconut to plant in Cau Ke and From there the land has a special produce.
Inside the coconut wax is not water and crispy coconut as usual. Full of fruitfulness is a milky white waxy form; The water in the middle is thick as well as dew. By almost no water so coconut wax is not intended for refreshment. It is usually made into vitamins, beetroots with sugar, milk or fruit ... and its aroma, vitality and extreme fatness make it one who can not forget once.
Virgin coconut is also very rare. Each tree is only a few fruits are coconut coconut, the rest are ordinary coconut. Therefore, the price of coconut coconut is often higher than dozens of times. The scarcity of goods often occurs on public holidays.
Mr. Thach Phu My, Chairman of Hoa Tan Co-operative, coconut production unit has been protected trademark since 2012 - said: "Due to the natural conditions of Cau Ke area With this variety, the coconut wax is cultivated here and it tastes better than other regions. " At present, there are 26 cooperatives producing coconut, supplying about 10,000 pieces of fruit per year at prices ranging from VND 160,000-200,000 / fruit, sometimes reaching over VND 250,000 / fruit. Major markets are Ho Chi Minh City and the western provinces.
Le Van Truyen, a specialist in the Department of Specialized Management, Tra Vinh Department of Science and Technology, said that the area planted with coconut in Cau Ke in particular and Tra Vinh province in general is constantly expanding. However, according to Mr. Thach Phu My, coconut export ambition of Hoa Tan cooperative can not be implemented due to low output.
"Coconut does not have to be planted with any wax, the coconut ratio in coconut is only about 25-30%. Previously, we planted coconut wax embryo culture experiments and resulted in the number of waxes accounted for over 80% of the coconut chamber. However, because the coconut seedlings are cultured in embryos are too expensive, from 800,000 to 1 million per tree, so they can not afford to invest, "My said, expressing his wish that the Department of Science and Technology Tea Vinh supports coconut seedling culture in the province, while the province needs to plan coconut plantation wax, building coconut brand wax with deep and wider range.
Mr. Le Van Truyen, Department of Science and Technology is carrying out a project to build coconut plantation model with seedling culture in embryo culture in Tra Vinh, the program of rural - mountainous areas, the implementation period from November 2016 to November 2019. Accordingly, the province will receive the technology of coconut embryo culture; To build a model of coconut plantation with seedlings for culture of embryos for sustainable development and increase real incomes for coconut farmers and develop products typical of the province.
According to Mr. Truyen, the project will support 100% of seedlings for farmers participating in the model. Participation criteria are 0.5-1 ha (in case one household is not enough, they can be joined with 1-2 adjacent households into one model), especially priority for local people Khmer people.
